Summer Workout Tip
Mix pool workouts into your weekly fitness routine.
Swimming Laps, Treading Water, Sprints, Squats, Lunges, Jumps, Core, & More all can be done in a pool. The water provides good resistance with little impact on the joints and is great for increasing range of motion, body shaping, increasing cardiorespiratory capacity, and improving power through multiple planes of motion. A pool is a great place to train both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems, and most important of all, it is a FUN change of pace to keep the fitness program fresh. Personally, I like to jump in the pool once or twice a week for about 45 minutes, then finish up with a good static stretch. Pool workouts work great as "active recovery" days. As always, be safe and know your limits in the pool.
Happy Wednesday, I'm off to the pool!
